Soccer

Among my most satisfying advocations is coaching and refereeing soccer teams. AYSO has given me the opportunity to build teams starting with young people with various abilities and enthusiasm levels. Putting together a team is like solving a jigsaw puzzle. When the pieces fit, the results are obvious.

I prefer coaching High School age players, because they are self-motivated and we can work on strategy and tactics instead of skills and conditioning. Both my current team (L) and my 2006 team (R) had 16-18 players, but most had better things to do than show up for "Picture Day".

Training Younger Players

I also coach in younger divisions in part to maintain family harmony but also to insure that younger players continue to learn throughout their AYSO experience. I also use this time to learn from my co-coaches, many of whom have experience playing and coaching at upper levels, including on semi-professional teams.

Rules of the Game

Being a Referee is another important aspect of my interest in soccer. You cannot appreciate the intensity of the game without getting on the field and enforcing the rules. It is also a great way to stay in shape!
